DOH approves the Water Safety Plan of General Santos City Water District

Out of 46 water districts in the Philippines who submitted a Water Safety Plan, General Santos City Water District is one of the very first 13 water districts who had earned an approval from the Department of Health.

This is in accordance with the Department of Health’s Administrative Order (AO) No. 2014-0027, dated September 4, 2014 requiring all drinking water service providers to develop and implement Water Safety Plan (WSP) to ensure the delivery of safe drinking water. Under the AO, all drinking water service providers are mandated to secure an approved WSP from the DOH or its authorize office.

The plan analyzes the risks of contamination, from the water source to the consumer. At any given point of risk, appropriate control measures are then put in place.

The GSCWD’s Water Safety Plan had been under a thorough review and process. After achieving an over-all passing rate acceptance of 60% from the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), with no individual score below 60% in any steps, it was then endorsed to the Department Of Health for approval and issuance of Acceptance Certificate.

The WSP Acceptance Certificate Control No. 2018-0009 was issued last January 16, 2018 and valid until January 15, 2021.

“A lot of Filipinos are still exposed to unsafe water and we, in General Santos City Water District, value the need for a safe drinking water. We will continue to adhere to the policies of our government and strive to carry out our vision which is to play a vital role in upgrading the life of the people by providing safe, potable, reliable and affordable water service”, said GSCWD General Manager Arn B. Gellangarin.

GSCWD is now ready to implement its approved WSP as a means of maintaining a safe supply of drinking water to the people of General Santos.
