Water for the far-flung community of Brgy. Tinagacan through Fund Your Way Program

The community of Prk. 20 Panayaman, Brgy. Tinagacan expressed their heartfelt gratitude during the official turn-over of the pipe donation from General Santos City Water District last October 7, 2019.

Through the Fund Your Way Program of the District’s Community Relations Section, Prk. 20 Panayaman, the farthest and the last purok of Brgy. Tinagacan, received an 800-meter polyethylene pipe which will be used to connect to a water source. According to one of the residents, they need to wake up every 2am and walk a distance of almost a kilometer just to get water for their daily use through the help of their “balsa” and carabao.

The community of Prk. 20, Panayaman, can now enjoy an easier access to water right on the taps of their homes.

The Pipe Donation Project was made possible through the Fund Your Way Contest, where different college students proposed a project to the management of General Santos City Water District. Their proposals focused on giving immediate solution to the water crisis of the rural communities in GenSan. The students from Holy Trinity College won the hearts of the District’s management by presenting its proposal for the community of Prk. 20 Panayaman, Brgy. Tinagacan.

The Fund Your Way Program was made to promote awareness to the young leaders of today with regard to the current situation of the people in the marginalized communities in GenSan as they strive for an access to safe water.

“We hope that through this program, we can encourage the public, to also take part in helping the marginalized group of our City have an access to safe and potable water even in their own little ways”, said General Manager Arn Gellangarin.
